MeshScape 4.0 Extends Millennial Net’s Industrial-grade Wireless Sensor Networking Capabilities

Market’s Most Widely Deployed Wireless Sensor Network Now Offers Ultra Low-Power Mesh; Turnkey Support for Modbus and Other Serial Protocols

SENSORS EXPO, Chicago - June 6, 2005 - Millennial Net today announced the release of MeshScape 4.0, the next generation of the company’s flagship industrial-grade wireless sensor networking system. MeshScape 4.0 features a new ultra-low-power mesh and turnkey support for Modbus and other serial protocols. It also marks the introduction of MeshGate, Millennial Net’s wireless sensor network gateway, now available in stand-alone or embeddable configurations.

The new functionality reinforces Millennial Net’s lead in large-scale industrial and commercial installations as the company continues to build a base of deployed networks in challenging environments such as hotels, office buildings, factory floors and outside industrial facilities.

MeshScape 4.0’s new ultra-low power mesh enables the creation of completely self-sufficient wireless sensor networks that require no external cabling—not even for power. Coupled with MeshScape’s robust, scalable system, the ultra-low power mesh enables operation in harsh industrial environments where external power is unavailable or cost-prohibitive.

MeshScape 4.0 also includes a unique command-response capability that provides turnkey support for Modbus and other serial protocols. This capability allows OEMs to quickly roll out new wireless sensor networking applications and installations with minimal integration effort. These serial communication protocols are widely used in building and industrial automation applications.

These new features are delivered through MeshScape’s new wireless sensor network gateway, MeshGate. MeshGate comes in both pre-packaged stand-alone and embeddable configurations, giving OEMs additional flexibility in deploying wireless sensor networks. MeshGate supports both Windows and Linux platforms and can be completely, simply and quickly integrated into existing sensor networking system controllers, enabling the easy addition of wireless mesh capabilities to existing networks.

“With MeshScape 4.0, we’ve focused on our OEMs’ needs for fast, cost-effective integration of wireless sensor networking into existing building and industrial automation systems,” said Mark Pacelle, vice president, marketing at Millennial Net. “From our customers’ perspective this means faster time to deployment and revenue, with a networking capability that can deliver a significant competitive edge in their market.”

MeshScape powers some of the largest wireless mesh networks in the market, supporting industrial and commercial needs including predictive maintenance, remote monitoring, hotel guestroom control management, utility equipment submetering, building envelope integrity assurance and energy use reduction. Reference kits and additional product information about MeshScape 4.0 are available online at www.millennialnet.com.

Sensors Expo attendees will have an opportunity to learn more about Millennial Net through two presentations. Mark Pacelle will present several real-world wireless sensor network applications in the industrial automation and facilities space during session NC2 on Tuesday at 9:45am. Sokwoo Rhee, co-founder and chief technology officer of Millennial Net, will discuss various approaches to increasing capacity in wireless sensor networks during session NC5 on Wednesday at 9:45am.
