LAS VEGAS, NEV.-Sept. 22, 2004-Frost & Sullivan announced today that it will recognize leading developer of self-organizing, wireless sensor networking systems Millennial Net, Inc. with the 2004 Wireless Sensors Technology Innovation of the Year Award at tonight's Excellence in Mobile Communications Awards Banquet. The Award recognizes the company for its introduction of an outstanding enterprise-class solution based on wireless sensor networking and acknowledges the potential of the solution to become an industry standard and the breadth of intellectual property related to it. Millennial Net is a pioneer in the development of ultra low-powered, self-organizing, wireless mesh-networking systems. Not only are these systems extremely cost-effective and reliable, they provide new insights into the behavioral and operational characteristics of dynamic systems. Capable of collecting information from sensors, Millennial Net-enabled measurement devices and a variety of other information-producing instruments, can last for almost five to 10 years on a single coin-sized battery in certain field applications. Further, since they are wireless, they can be deployed in a broad range of environments without the need to lay wires. "The company's solutions represent an entirely new product space in the wireless communications landscape," says Frost & Sullivan research analyst Sathyaraj Radhakrishnan. "While its wireless sensor networking products are more efficient and multifunctional than radio frequency identification (RFID), devices, its active network also uses less power and is more compact and cost-effective than WI-FI." A unique feature of this network is its ability to organize itself in an ad-hoc manner and automatically respond to changes or faults in the network. The network can competently repair itself, thus ensuring high reliability and fault tolerance. Moreover, while most start-up companies focus on discrete technology offerings concentrating on only a single component of the solution such as chips or the software stack, Millennial Net is strategically positioned to supply complete wireless sensor networking platforms to a broad range of customers. Since the technology is readily scalable, it can be easily adapted both for large-scale processes as well as for a smaller-scale, commercial implementations Furthermore, the company continues to innovate. Most recently, it has designed a product line that is compliant with ZigBee, an organization that drives standards in the wireless sensor networking space. "In the next decade or so, the technology is likely to become pervasive and find use in diverse industrial, commercial, and residential applications," concludes Radhakrishnan. "Millennial Net strives to develop innovative technologies that meet the market's needs for scalability, fast time to deployment, reliability, and cost-effectiveness," said Mark Pacelle, vice president of marketing at Millennial Net. "We are extremely honored to receive this award from Frost & Sullivan and are pleased that the industry recognizes the success of these efforts." Held in Las Vegas, Frost & Sullivan's 2004 Excellence in Mobile Communications Awards Banquet honors world-class companies for outstanding performance and achievements in wireless and mobile strategy, technology, platforms and services. An annual event, the banquet recognizes the quality and merit of distinguished individuals and companies. About Millennial Net About Frost & Sullivan |
