Millennial Net Releases Sensor Network Management Software, Continues Leadership in Wireless Mesh Networking

New Network Application Programming Interface Provides Superior Development and Integration Capabilities for Ease of Deployment

DETROIT and CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--June 7, 2004--Millennial Net, Inc., the leading developer of self-organizing wireless mesh networks, today announced the release of the Millennial Net Sensor Network Management (SNM) software and Application Programming Interface (API), providing sophisticated management tools for its ultra-small, ultra-low power i-Bean® hardware networking devices. The software eases the installation and maintenance of wireless mesh networks and greatly reduces the complexity of connecting and managing vast networks of sensors and other monitoring devices.

The Millennial Net SNM software represents the first time that users can incorporate "traditional" wired network management functions into their wireless sensor networks and creates a common platform for all i-Bean devices operating in the 916 MHz or 2.4GHz frequency. The Sensor Network Management API (SNM API) provides an interface through which back-end applications can easily integrate into the sensor network. Leveraging a portfolio of radio technologies, including micro-power narrowband and 802.15.4-based radios, i-Bean Endpoints, Routers and Gateways combine to create self-organizing, self-configuring wireless networks.

"The Millennial Net SNM tools represent key software advancements that allow customers to quickly develop, integrate and deploy application-based wireless sensor networks," said Sokwoo Rhee, chief technology officer at Millennial Net. "Our customers value the ability to set up a network right out of the box and easily manage their Millennial Net Sensor Networks as well as incorporate the same functionality into their own applications through the use of our SNM API."

Millennial Net's Network Management Software automatically discovers and displays active i-Bean devices to assemble a functioning wireless network. The SNM allows users to view and control the entire sensor network environment from one monitoring or control station much like wired network management tools. The software also allows users to set network and device parameters and monitor the status of the network components and their inputs/outputs. This functionality will ease the network manager’s burden and eliminate legacy monitoring application redundancies.

The Sensor Network Management API enables network managers to integrate existing applications and gain complete control over their networks. The SNM API is designed for high scalability and supports a full portfolio of functions including event notification, error handling, logging and statistics.

"Millennial Net has thought through all the elements needed to implement a wireless sensor network quickly, efficiently and easily" said Bill Westerman, Associate Partner at Accenture Technology Labs. "We had their network up and running in less than an hour. Software installation went smoothly and Millennial Net i-Beans organized themselves into a mesh network as soon as we powered them up. This far exceeded our expectation and experience with all other wireless sensor network vendors."

The Millennial Net Sensor Network Management software and API is available now as part of Millennial Net’s Evaluation Kits for OEM prototyping. The kit includes five i-Bean Endpoints, three i-Bean Routers and one i-Bean Gateway. The price for the i-Bean Evaluation Kit is $4,500.

Millennial Net will be demonstrating its i-Bean Sensor Network Monitoring software at Sensors Expo & Conference, June 7 - 10, 2004, at the Cobo Conference and Exhibition Hall in Detroit, MI. Millennial Net can be located at the show at booth #509. Tod Riedel, co-founder and vice president of business development for Millennial Net, will also be presenting on the topic, "Self-Organizing Wireless Sensor Networks" on Wednesday, June 9, at 8:30 a.m. CT.

About Millennial Net
Headquartered in Cambridge, Mass., with offices in Tokyo, Japan, Millennial Net is the world's leading developer of hardware and software for self-organizing, low power wireless sensor networks. Millennial Net's award-winning networking software and tiny micro-power hardware elements, called i-Beans®, allow instrumentation and sensing devices like gauges, sensors and actuators to connect and communicate with each other over self-organizing, self-healing networks. Patent-pending engineering enables the i-Bean to operate with an extremely low rate of power consumption on the energy of a 3-volt coin-sized battery for years at a time. Wireless sensor networks enable the remote monitoring and management of critical devices while providing continuous streams of previously unavailable data to enable more informed decision-making, better control and increased revenue opportunities. Wireless sensor networks are in use today for industrial, medical, consumer and military applications. Millennial Net is committed to advancing Wireless Sensor Networking...Anywhere.
