Millennial Net Featured as "Interactive Poster" at UbiComp 2003

"i-Beans: An Ultra-Low Power Wireless Sensor Network," researched and written by members of the Millennial Net engineering team, was recently featured at The Fifth Annual Conference on Ubiquitous Computing, or "UbiComp" for short. UbiComp is the premier forum for presentation of research results in all areas relating to the design, implementation, application and evaluation of ubiquitous computing technologies. UbiComp 2003 took place October 12-15 in Seattle, and featured a variety of presentations, papers, and technical notes from the biggest players in the field, including Intel, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Nokia, and Millennial Net.

Company co-founders Sokwoo Rhee and Sheng Liu, along with engineers Deva Seetharam, Ningya Wang and Jason Xiao, co-wrote the paper and submitted it to UbiComp in the "Interactive Poster" category of the show. The paper presents Millennial Net's ultra low-power wireless sensor networking solution with self-organizing protocol and examines its viability in low data-rate ubiquitous computer applications. Millennial Net's tiny, micro-power network elements, called i-Beans®, are used in industrial automation, building automation, supply chain management, automatic meter reading, security, remote health monitoring, homeland defense and other low-power, low data-rate applications.

Andy May Joins Millennial Net as President and CEO

Last month Millennial Net welcomed Andy May as president and chief executive officer. Andy has spent 20 years in the networking industry, dividing his time between product manufacturing and network services companies. Most recently Andy was chief executive officer of Paradyne Corporation, where he successfully created and capitalized on opportunities in the emerging DSL and frame relay marketplaces by focusing on new products and creative marketing strategies. An accomplished executive with experience navigating public and private financial markets, Andy is also credited with leading the turnaround of the company in 1996 after it was taken private through a leveraged buyout from AT&T and went on to lead the company through a successful IPO in 1999. Under Andy's guidance, Paradyne grew to generate annual revenues of $200 million. Prior to Paradyne, Andy served as vice president and general manager of 3Com's Network Service Provider Division, and before that, as vice president of marketing for Primary Access Corporation. Earlier in his career, May spent eight years at CompuServe in its Network Services Division, where he held a variety of key sales and marketing positions.

Millennial Net and Asahi Kasei Install i-Bean-enabled Security System in Tokyo Condo
Millennial Net, working with Asahi Kasei Group and its subsidiary Asahi Kasei Homes, recently installed an i-Bean enabled security system in a Tokyo condominium. i-Bean enabled motion detectors, combined with i-Bean Gateways and internet enabled cameras, are used to detect the presence of visitors and residents to the condominium property. The i-Bean network constantly monitors the peripheral and internal areas of the condominium's public spaces and provides notice through e-mail alerts and web-based status reports. The installation of this trial system is one of many pilot programs of i-Bean enabled devices currently in process. We'll keep you updated as these trials progress.
